Standley Lake was cool and breezy on May 20. Despite the clouds, more than 20 participants with disabilities boarded two dragon boats. They took to the lake and began practice rowing in preparation for the dragon boat races that will take place this July at Sloans Lake. Gary Verrazono was among the crew. Verrazono lost his right arm and leg in an accident in Las Vegas. He had heard about the folks at Limb 359 and Adaptive Adventures. After traveling back and forth to Denver for events, he chose to move to Denver and went from participant to extraordinary volunteer. After an hour of rowing, the boats returned, and Verrazono was celebrated for his incredible volunteer efforts, receiving the Minoru Yasui Community Volunteer Award.
